As everyone is probably already aware, the community pier next to the boat ramp has been temporarily closed. The pier is over 30 years old and currently has a potential for injury due to the condition of some of the deck boards and handrails. Up until now, we have utilized a “Band-Aid” approach to maintain the pier; however, this is no longer possible due to its deteriorating condition.
We (the Board of Directors) are currently investigating two potential options. The first option would be a total rebuild of the pier other than the pylons which are still in good condition. The second option would be to completely demolish it. We are communicating with Lake County and the state’s Department of Environmental Protection to determine any necessary permits or other requirements.
We have submitted requests for proposals to multiple builders for both options, though responses have been limited thus far. We will continue to collect and review bids as they are received, and will address them in the October letter to members and present the information to all members at the Annual Meeting in November for a vote on which option to choose. For this reason, we highly encourage all members to attend the Annual Meeting so that all of our voices may be heard.
To maintain complete transparency, we will provide status updates on the community website as often as possible. Any suggestions from the members are welcome and would be greatly appreciated. We also appreciate your patience in this matter.
